MAJ Audrey Jo Dean

Major Audrey Jo Dean is the Army National Guard (ARNG) Deputy Assistant Commandant for the United States Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear School (USACBRNS) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. She ensures the ARNG perspectives are fully integrated into the development of emerging doctrine, leader development, and force structure impacting the manning, equipping, training, readiness, mobilization and deployability of ARNG CBRN Units and Soldiers (primary focus on Soldiers). Additionally she provides the Chief of CBRN timely and accurate perspectives on personnel, equipment, training, and deployment issues that pertain to the ARNG CBRN Community.
Major Dean enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard in October 2002, serving as a CBRN and Signal Soldier. Major Dean proceeded to graduate from the Reserve Officer Training Corps at Tarleton State A&M University in 2006 where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree and commissioned into Active Duty as Second Lieutenant in the CBRN Corps.
After commissioning Major Dean’s first assignment was 2nd Platoon Leader, 46 CM CO, 2 CM BN, 48 CM BDE, Fort Hood TX. She served two years as the platoon leader before being assigned the Company Executive officer in 2009. Major Dean transitioned from Active duty to the United Stated Reserve where she was assigned as the Executive Officer to the 4 ESC at Fort Sam Houston, TX. In 2011, Major Dean moved to Maryland and was selected be the Aide to Camp for a two star flag officer. Late in 2014 Major Dean transitioned from USAR to ARNG providing her the opportunity to work more in her branch and qualified expertise. After being reappointed to ARNG in 2014, she spent a year as the BN CM Officer (MDAY) for the 581 Troop Command in Hagerstown, MD. In 2016, Major Dean commanded (MDAY) the 460 CM CO, 210 MP BN, 177 MP BDE, Augusta Michigan. Additionally, Major Dean served fulltime as the ARNG G3 CBRN Operations Officer in Arlington, VA from 2015 – 2018.
Major Dean deployed to Iraq from 2007-2009 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where she served as the 2nd Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for the 46 Chemical Company, Task Force 16 and 17 Joint Special Operations Command. A second deployment, 2014-2015 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where she served as the Theater Radiation Officer for the 1st Theater Sustainment Command in support of CJSOA; 8 countries consisting of Egypt, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia.
Major Deans’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OCL), the Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, Iraq Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with bronze numeral 2, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Army Staff Identification Badge and German Armed Forces Badge (Gold).
Major Dean currently lives in Saint Robert, MO with her husband LTC Erick Velasquez.
