CSM Matthew Reed

 
Command Sergeant Major Matt Reed is a native of York, PA where he enlisted in the Army and completed One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA as an 11B Infantryman.
 
CSM Reed trained and led Soldiers in a variety of light and airborne assignments throughout FORSCOM, TRADOC, and USARCENT, including tours as a Ranger Instructor and ROTC Instructor. CSM Reed dedicated 51 months as the First Sergeant for three companies: a rifle company and dismounted reconnaissance troop with 1st Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, and a Brigade HHC for Area Support Group-Qatar. Most recently, he served as the Army’s Senior Enlisted Leader at the Virginia Military Institute, transforming college students into Officers at the largest ROTC program in the Nation.

CSM Reed’s military education includes all levels of the NCOPDS, and he is a graduate of the Sergeants Major Academy (Class 69). He completed Airborne, Jumpmaster, and the 82nd’s Master Jumpmaster Course; Pathfinder; Ranger School; Mountain Leader Advanced Rifle Marksmanship; Army Basic Instructor, Tactics Certification Course, and the Ranger Instructor Certification Program; the U.S. Air Force’s Joint Firepower Controller Course; First Sergeant’s Course; Master Resilience Trainer; Battle Staff NCO; Common Faculty Development-Instructor Course; Senior ROTC Pre-Command Course; and the Battalion Pre-Command Course. Educationally, CSM Reed holds a BS in Business, a MA in Defense and Strategic Studies, and a STEM-designated MBA from the top-ranked UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.
 
CSM Reed’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal (5), Army Commendation Medal (7), Army Achievement Medal (3), Army Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan and Iraq Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5), Overseas Service Ribbon (5), and NATO Metal. Additionally, he’s been awarded the Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Army Superior Unit Award. He’s earned the Expert Infantry Badge; Combat Infantry Badge; Basic, Senior, and Master Parachutist Wings; the Pathfinder Badge, and the coveted Ranger Tab. CSM Reed is a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice (Centurion) and has earned foreign parachutist wings from Chile, Brazil, Australia, Italy, and France.
