Colonel Jo San Miguel
Colonel Johannie San Miguel graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in December 1999 with a major in Natural Science. She was commissioned through the U.S. Army ROTC program in January 2000. On 25 May 2023, Colonel San Miguel assumed command of the 48th Chemical Brigade Fort Cavazos, TX.
She graduated from the U.S. Army Basic Chemical Officers’ Course and the Captains’ Career Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She also a distinguished graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Western Hemisphere for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) and is a graduate from the National War College.
Colonel San Miguel’s command and leadership assignments include Platoon leader, 23d Chemical Battalion, Camp Carroll, South Korea; Company Commander, 2d Chemical Battalion, Fort Hood, TX; Battalion Commander, 23d Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Battalion, Camp Humphreys, South Korea; and Command Inspector General, United States Southern Command, Doral, FL.

Colonel San Miguel’s operational deployments have been with the 407th Medical Company in support of humanitarian assistance after Hurricane Mitch in Guatemala, and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 504th Military Intelligence Brigade and the 46th Chemical Company. She is fluent in Spanish.
Her personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
