Private Edward C. Carter
Private Edward C. Carter was born on 16 March 1896. He served in A Company, First Gas Regiment, American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), in World War I and was engaged in the battles of Lys, Ypres, Messines, Lens/Somme, Armentieres, Chateau-Thierry, Meuse/Argonne, Aisne/Marne, St. Mihiel, Verdun, and Youl.
Private Carter was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Following the war, Mr. Carter became heavily involved in veteran’s affairs, including the organization of the First Gas Regiment Association. Mr. Carter was publisher of the Gas Attack, the newsletter of the association, and was instrumental in the organization of reunions. He held various leadership positions and was serving as President at the time of his death.
Mr. Edward C. Carter died on 6 September 1973.
