Dr. Anna Johnson-Winegar

 

Anna Johnson-Winegar, Ph.D. was born on 27 May 1945. Starting as a civilian lab tech she worked her way up to Director of Medical Chemical and Biological Defense Research Programs for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, Fort Detrick.

 
Ms. Johnson-Winegar then moved to the Office of Director of Defense Research and Engineering, and is considered the foremost expert in biological warfare. During defense program reviews she was instrumental in convincing Congress to provide an additional funding to the Chemical Biological Defense Program (CBDP), providing protection to two hundred Department of Defense installations.
 

Ms. Johnson-Winegar has distinguished herself by spearheading efforts to improve the CBDP management structure and to get the scientific information and findings into the hands of the people who require it.
