SGM (R) Matthew M. Henson
SGM Matthew M. Henson was born in Chattanooga, TN. He enlisted in the Army in September 1999 as a Chemical Operations Specialist and attended basic training and advanced individual training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
SGM Henson’s assignments include 21st Chemical Company (Airborne), 82nd Airborne Division as a Smoke Platoon Squad leader, CBRN NCO for HHC, Special Operations Support Command, C Co, 528th Special Operations Support Battalion as the HQ Platoon Sergeant at Fort Bragg, NC. SGM Henson also served as the Chemical Detachment Sergeant, Exploitation Analysis Center NCOIC and CBRN Detachment Alpha Team Leader for the 112th CBRN Reconnaissance Detachment, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Joint Base Lewis- McChord, WA, 501st CBRNE CO (Technical Escort), 23rd CBRN BN as a CBRN Response Team Sergeant and First Sergeant at Camp Stanley, Republic of Korea, 11th CBRNE CO (Technical Escort) as a CBRN Response Team Sergeant, the 45th CBRN CO (Hazard Response) First Sergeant, Detachment Sergeant for the 112th CBRN Reconnaissance Detachment, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), the 82nd Airborne Division CBRNE Sergeant Major and is currently the XVIII Airborne Corps and Ft Bragg Protection Sergeant Major. SGM Henson has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in addition to 6 rotations in support of Operation Foal Eagle (Republic of Korea).
SGM Henson’s military education includes the Chemical Operations Course (74D), BLC, ALC, SLC, Airborne School, Air Movement Operations Course, Jumpmaster Course, Technical Escort Course, Special Operations Site Exploitation Course, Exploitation Analysis Course, Battlefield Forensics Course, the 1SG/ Company Commander Pre-Command Course and the US Army Sergeants Major Academy.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal (6OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, NATO Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Citation, Senior Parachutist Badge, Republic or Korea Jumpmaster Badge, German Parachutist Badge, Australian Parachutist Badge, Canadian Parachutist Badge, and the Driver/ Mechanic Badge. SGM Henson has a Bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Workforce Development from the US Army Command and General Staff College.
