Lieutenant Colonel Justin Hurt


Lieutenant Colonel Justin P. Hurt is a native of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1998 and served over three years as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, culminating as a SGT(P). He was subsequently commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Chemical Corps through Officer Candidate School in 2001.


LTC Hurt’s assignments include NCOIC of the V Corps CI ACE in Germany; Task Force Falcon TFCICA NCO for 1st ID (Rear), Macedonia and Kosovo; Battalion and Group Chemical Officer and CRD Commander, 1st SFG(A), Fort Lewis, WA; Brigade Chemical, Training and Force Modernization Officer, 2nd BCT, 2ID, Fort Carson, CO; Commander for both HHC, 2nd BCT, 2ID and HHC, 4th BCT, 4ID, Fort Carson, CO; CRT Team Leader and Company Commander, Bravo Company, 110th Chemical Battalion (Technical Escort), JBLM, WA; WMD-E Detachment Commander, Joint Task Force-Troy, Iraq; Operations Officer, 23rd Chemical Battalion, JBLM, WA; Executive Officer, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Chemical Concepts Officer and Army Warfighting Challenge CWMD Program Manager, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; CBRNE Military Advisory Teams Section Chief, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, VA; Defense Liaison and Interagency Fellow, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Washington, DC; CBRN/WMD Integration Officer and Maneuver Support Branch Chief, HQDA G-3/5/7 FM, Pentagon, Arlington, VA; and most recently as the Commander, 110th CBRN Battalion (TE), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. He recently assumed duty with the CWMD Office at the Department of Homeland Security as the Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary and Policy Advisor.


LTC Hurt’s professional education includes the Battalion Pre-Command Course, Fort Leavenworth, KS; Joint Forces Staff College Joint and Combined Warfighting School in Norfolk, VA; Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS; Chemical Captain’s Career Course, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Chemical Officer’s Basic Course, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, GA; Primary Leadership Development Course, Grafenwoehr, Germany; and Counterintelligence Special Agent’s Course, Fort Huachuca, AZ. LTC Hurt is also a certified civilian firefighter, paramedic, and former law enforcement officer.


He is a graduate of the Airborne and Jumpmaster courses, Technical Escort Course, CWMD Advisors Course, How the Army Runs Course, Capabilities Developer Course, Joint Planners School, Special Forces Basic Combat Course, NATO Special Reconnaissance Course, NATO Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Course, NATO Survival Course, Theater Nuclear Operations Course, Air Operations Officer Course, and the Defense Support to Civil Authorities Phase II program. His civilian education includes a Master of Military Science in Homeland Security from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS; a Master of Science in Environmental Management from Webster University, St. Louis, MO; a Bachelor of Science with majors in Environmental Science from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA and Biochemistry from Washington University in St.  Louis, MO. He is currently working on his PhD dissertation in Biodefense at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
