Wong received his commission in 2009 as Military Intelligence Officer at Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning, Georgia, (known as Fort Moore since 2023), where he was assigned to the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division. There he deployed as a Combat Aviation Battalion S-2 into Kandahar Province in 2009, and deployed to Nangahar Province, Afghanistan in 2012 as a Battalion S-2 for 1st Brigade Combat Team and TDA to an NSW-Joint Special Operations Command Element as the Senior Provincial Targeteer and Battle Space Integrator within the Ground Strike Force. A career intelligence officer, Wong has served in several noteworthy assignments: Aviation Battalion S2, Combat Aviation Brigade AS2, Engineer Battalion S2, Light Infantry Battalion S2, 25th Infantry Division Targeting Officer, Mission Command Training Program Corps and Division Intelligence Planner and Intelligence Exercise Control officer in charge, 25th Infantry Division G3 Plans Officer, 25th Infantry Division Analysis & Control Element Chief, and 715th Military Intelligence Battalion Executive Officer.
Wong’s military education includes the Military Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Air Assault Course, Pathfinder Course, Rappel Master Course, Military Intelligence Captains Career Course, Signal Intelligence Officer Course, Military Deception Planner Course, BCT S2 Course, Digital Intelligence Systems Master Gunner Course, Command & General Staff College, Army Strategist program (06S), School of Advanced Military Studies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Middle Tennessee State, a Master of Arts (Operational Studies) from the Command & General Staff College, a Master of Arts (Military Operations) from the Advanced Military Studies Program–School of Advanced Military Studies, and currently pursuing a master’s degree in information technology from Webster University.
Wong’s awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Valorous Unit Award, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Combat Action Badge, the Order of Saint Barbara (Field Artillery), and the Knowlton Award (Military Intelligence).
Wong was born in Germany and is the youngest son of retired 1st Sgt. Mario Wong Sr., a Vietnam War draftee and first-generation American citizen from Guam. He and his wife have two sons and one daughter.
