Sexual harassment and sexual assault are incompatible with the Army Values and the Warrior Ethos
The Army's Sexual Harassment/Assault Response & Prevention program, known as SHARP, exists so the Army can prevent sexual harassment and sexual assaults before they occur. Our goal is to create a climate that respects the dignity of every member of the Army family. Additionally, we strive to:
- Increase prevention and victim care
- Reduce the stigma of reporting
- Refine and sustain response capability
- Protect the victim
- Enhance investigation and prosecution capabilities
- Increase training and resources
- Provide community outreach
One assault is one too many. We must foster a climate of trust that respects and protects our service members, civilians and family members. SHARP is a commander's program. We are committed to ensuring engaged leadership at all levels to prevent sexual harassment and sexual assault.

SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE COORDINATOR (SARC)
The SARC is responsible for coordinating local implementation of the SHARP Program. The SARC conducts the intake for all sexual harassment complaints and ensures the initiation of a formal investigation. The SARC can conduct the intake for sexual assault reports. They can also assign a Victim Advocate to a victim of sexual harassment/assault. All communication with a SARC is confidential and cannot be disclosed without the consent of the client.
VICTIM ADVOCATE
The Victim Advocate is a person who is there to provide information and support. They can conduct the intake for a report of sexual assault or be assigned by the SARC. All communication with a Victim Advocate is confidential and cannot be disclosed without the consent of the client.
SPECIAL VICTIM COUNSEL
The Special Victim Counsel is a specially trained legal assistance attorney certified by the Staff Judge Advocate to serve the legal assistance needs of sexual assault victims. SVCs are authorized by law to enter into attorney-client relationships with the victim and advocate for the victim's rights and interests.
MEDICAL CARE
Sexual assault victims are strongly encouraged to receive a medical examination as soon as possible. The medical examination enables the diagnosis and treatment of physical injuries, assessment of the emotional impact of the assault, assessment and management of any sexually transmitted diseases, and the collection of forensic evidence relevant to the assault.
CHAPLAIN
The chaplain is a person that a victim can talk to in the event of a sexual harassment/assault. Although chaplains cannot take a restricted or unrestricted report, communication with a chaplain is privileged. Therefore chaplains are a safe resource for counseling (religious or non-religious) care.
