LTC_Swett_Eric_A_PHoto.jpgLt. Col. Eric Swett is currently assigned to the Directorate of Intelligence at U.S. Africa Command as the Chief of Intelligence Plans West. Enlisting as an All-Source Analyst (35F) in 1999, he rose to staff sergeant in 2003 before his commissioning as a Military Intelligence officer from the Officer Candidate School in 2004.

He is a graduate of the Wightman NCO Academy’s Basic Leader Course (Honor Graduate), Military Intelligence Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education (Resident), Joint Combined Warfighter School, and the Military Transition Team Course. Planning specific courses include: Joint Intelligence Planning Certification (JIP-1), Intelligence Planning Course – Phase I & II, Joint Counter-WMD Planner’s Course, Joint Cyber Operations Planner Course, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Planner’s Course, 0300 Planner’s Course, and Army Strategist ASI. Intelligence specific courses include the Counterintelligence Officer’s Course, Military Source Operations Course, Defense Strategic Debriefing Course, Counter-surveillance Surveillance Detection Course, and the G2X/J2X Management Course.

Prior to his arrival at AFRICOM, he was assigned to the 309th Military Intelligence Battalion where he served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer. Previous assignments include Deputy G2 for Operations, G2X, and HHBn S2 for the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Afghanistan and Fort Campbell; Company Commander for HSC, 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion and Collection Manager for the Ground Component Command – Combined Analytical Control Center in USAG Humphreys, Korea; three additional tours in Korea with the 94th Military Police Battalion and the 524th Military Intelligence Battalion at USAG Yongsan; two tours in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and the 3rd Armored Calvary Regiment, one tour in Afghanistan with the 101st Airborne Division, and Operation United Assistance (Ebola Response) in Liberia with the 101st Airborne Division.

Swett holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science from the University of Maryland – College Park and a master's of Military Arts and Science, with a focus in West Africa Strategic Studies, from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.  

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with 2 OLC, the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with 3 OLC, the OIF and OEF Campaign Medals.

Swett is married and has two children.
