Ed Fitzpatrick hails from Honolulu, Hawaii, and graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he played football and studied Political Science. He joined the Army in 2010, commissioning as an Armor Officer from Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia (known as Fort Moore since 2023). After Ranger School, he was assigned to 1-91 Cavalry Squadron, 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) in Schweinfurt, Germany. He deployed to Logar Province, Afghanistan, in 2012 as a Scout Platoon Leader.

Upon return from Afghanistan, Fitzpatrick served as B/1-91 Troop Executive Officer (XO) and then 1-91 CAV Assistant Operations Officer (AS3) in Grafenwöhr, Germany. He deployed to Estonia in 2014 in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve amidst Russian aggression towards Ukraine. During this time, he met his future wife at an U.S. Embassy event. They married in 2015 in Ærøskøbing, Denmark.

In 2015, Fitzpatrick transitioned to Military Intelligence (MI) and attended Captains Career Course (MICCC) in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. He moved back home to Hawaii, to serve as the Assistant Brigade Intelligence Officer (AS2) for 25th Division Artillery (DIVARTY) at Schofield Barracks. Fitzpatrick subsequently served in 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division (3/25 ID) as the 3/4 CAV Squadron Intelligence Officer (S2) and then the Military Intelligence Company (MICO) Commander.

In 2018, Fitzpatrick was assigned to the Combined Arms Center (CAC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he served as Aide de Camp to Brig. Gen. Efflandt and then Brig. Gen. Galloway, Commanding General of the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College (CGSC). In 2019, Fitzpatrick joined the Junior Officer GEOINT Program (JOGP) at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) in the national capital region. At NGA, he worked national collection management during multiple crises in the Middle East, imagery analysis in the Russian global operations branch, and strategic target vetting/analysis.

In 2022, Fitzpatrick moved to Vicenza, Italy, to serve as the Operations Officer (S3) then Executive Officer (XO) of 307th MI Forward Collection Battalion (FCB), 207th Military Intelligence Brigade-Theater, aligned to the U.S. Africa Command (USAFRICOM) Theater.

Fitzpatrick currently serves as the Southern European Task Force-Africa (SETAF-AF) Analysis & Control Element (ACE) Chief, providing Africa related intelligence support to SETAF-AF, U.S. Army Europe & Africa, and USAFRICOM CG. He holds a master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College and a master’s degree in Intelligence Studies from American Military University. He enjoys travel, fitness, history, and spending time with his family.

His decorations include the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Bronze Star Medal; Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Ranger Tab.

Fitzpatrick and his wife have two children.
