He is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and a Distinguished Military Graduate of Texas A&M University. He holds a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
Gurrola has served in various leadership positions in intelligence to include the Battalion S-2 for 4-2 Aviation Battalion (Attack), 2nd Infantry Division and Assistant S2 in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. While at the 3/75 Ranger Regiment, he served as a Task Force Intelligence Officer (J2) leading joint intelligence teams providing time sensitive intelligence in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served in the U.S. Army Pacific Analysis and Control Element (ACE) as the Deputy Ace Chief and took command of an MI Company in the 205th Military Intelligence Battalion, 500th Military Intelligence Brigade. These experiences provided a strong tactical grounding and a passion for developing leaders and delivering intelligence for decision.
Gurrola served as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and as Adjunct Faculty at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Joint Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Badge, among others. He is a graduate of Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster Course, and the Ranger Assessment and Selection Program.
Gurrola’s hobbies include coaching youth basketball, football and fishing. He and his wife have four children and are all thrilled to serve the community.
