Maj. Ricardo Munoz began his career in 2005 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve as an Intelligence Analyst assigned to the 321st MI BN at Camp Bullis, Texas. He would transition to active duty and Field Artillery Branch upon commissioning in 2008.
As a company grade officer, Munoz held numerous positions at the tactical level to include Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader, Infantry and Military Intelligence companies Executive Office, G2 Targeting Officer, Airborne Battalion Intelligence Officer, Company Commander, and Observer/ Controller-Trainer at the Joint Readiness Training Center.
As a student at the U.S. Naval War College’s Maritime Advanced Warfighting School, Munoz led a team of joint and interagency intelligence partners in the development of an Intelligence Assessment and Maritime Support Plan for a USEUCOM CONPLAN. He and his team were commended by the NAVEUR’s 6th Fleet Commander for their assessment and the most thorough production of threat courses of action.
Following ILE, Munoz was assigned to III Armored Corps G5 as an Intelligence Planner and as a Plans Team Chief in the CJTF-OIR CJ5. During this assignment, he led the III Armored Corps Lethality campaign, focused on increasing armored lethality across the US Army’s armored formations. While in CJTF-OIR, Munoz led planning efforts to evolve OIR’s Iraqi Security Forces and Kurdish Peshmerga advising construct to align with a Phase IV approach.
Upon return from OIR, Munoz was assigned to the 163d Military Intelligence Battalion where he served as the S3 Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer during a critical time of transition as the battalion modernized into an Intelligence and Electronic Warfare Battalion. This transition fundamentally changed the battalion across the DOTMLPF spectrum and better aligned the battalion to support U.S. Army Divisions during large scale ground combat operations.
Munoz then served as an Armored Brigade Combat Team Brigade Intelligence Officer for the 3rd ABCT, 1st Cavalry Division during a short-notice deployment to the USEUCOM AOR assure NATO allies, deter Russian aggression, and reinforce NATO’s eastern flank. As the ABCT S2, he led the brigade’s intelligence warfighting function during multinational exercise, support to NATO Battle Groups, and intelligence support to theater level intelligence operations.
Munoz currently serves as an Intelligence Planner in the HQDA G-3/5/7.
Munoz is married to his wife of 13 years. They have two incredible children.
Munoz’ previous awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2nd Award).
