Alex Saul was born in Sammamish, Washington, and attended undergraduate schooling at the United States Military Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Honors Military History with a focus on the Arab-Israeli Wars. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from University of California-Berkeley and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University.

After commissioning as an Armor officer in 2010, Saul attended the Armor Basic Officer Leader Course, the Stryker Crewman’s Course, and the Army Reconnaissance course in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was then assigned to 8th Squadron, 1st U.S. Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He served as a Scout Platoon Leader in C Troop during the squadron’s 2012 deployment to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, where his 23 Soldiers occupied a small combat outpost with 26 Afghan policemen. He later became the B Troop Executive Officer for the latter half of the deployment and then served as the Squadron S4.

In 2014, Saul transitioned to Military Intelligence and attended the Military Intelligence Officer Transition Course and the Military Intelligence Captains Career Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, before moving to Fort Stewart, Georgia, in 2015 with his girlfriend, and later wife. In the 3rd Infantry Division, he served as the Battalion S2 for 1st Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment for 20 months including two rotations to Eastern and Southern Europe in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve in 2015 and 2016. He then served as the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team Assistant S2 in 2017 before being selected to command the Division’s Headquarters and Support Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion from 2017 to 2018. While at Fort Stewart, he applied to be an Economics Instructor at West Point, and upon acceptance applied to and attended the Haas School of Business to earn his MBA from 2018 to 2020.

While attending Berkeley, Saul served as the Vice President of the business school’s Data Science Club and the Co-President of the university's second annual Artificial Intelligence Summit. Upon graduation in 2020, he moved to West Point to serve as an Assistant Professor of Economics, where he taught courses on the Principles of Economics as well as the History of Economics. Additionally, he served as Executive Secretary of the USMA Graduate Scholarship Program, a role in which he taught selective classes on purpose, vision and rhetoric, and also guided and mentored cadets chosen to apply for prestigious international scholarships.

After West Point, and now a Strategic Intelligence Officer, Saul moved to Washington, D.C., to attend the National Intelligence University where he earned his Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence with a concentration in Intelligence Community Leadership & Management. His classified thesis explored common factors in intelligence failures occurring in Afghanistan 2021 and Ukraine 2022. After graduating in 2023, Saul was assigned to the Joint Staff J23 where he now provides intelligence support to customers across a range of portfolios as well as executive briefings.
