Lt. Col. Benjamin Gong was commissioned as an Infantry officer after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point in May of 2005. He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Military Intelligence Captain's Career Course, Joint Human Intelligence Officer Course, Army Space Cadre Basic Course, Command and General Staff College, and the National Intelligence University. Gong holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University.
As an Infantry officer, Gong served as a Platoon Leader, Able Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, Camp Casey, Korea; Executive Officer, Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, Fort Riley, Kansas; and an Embedded Transition Team (ETT) Team Chief, 3rd Kandak, 3rd Brigade, 203rd Corps of the Afghan National Army, Gardez, Paktya.
Gong transitioned to the Military Intelligence Corps in November of 2009. As a Military Intelligence officer, he served as a Brigade S2X, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Commander, 185th Military Intelligence Company and Brigade Assistant Intelligence Officer (AS2)/Rear Detachment S2, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; G2X Operations Officer, Eighth Army Headquarters, U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, Korea; Division Artillery (DIVARTY) Senior Intelligence Officer (S2), 25th DIVARTY, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Brigade Executive Officer, 500th Military Intelligence Brigade-Theater (MIB-T), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Collection Manager, U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC), Fort Shafter, Hawaii; and Division Deputy Chief, Integrated Warfighter and Cyber Support (IWCS) Division, National Security Agency/Central Security Service (NSA/CSS).
Gong’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 Bronze Service Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NATO Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Gold). Additionally, he is a recipient of the Knowlton Award and the Honorable Order of St. Barbara.
Gong and his wife have two children.
