MAJ_Kydes_Andrew_T_Photo.jpgMaj. Andrew Kydes graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2010 as a distinguished honor graduate. During his time at the Academy, he played soccer for the Black Knights and majored in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation from West Point, Kydes received his commission as a second lieutenant into the Military Intelligence Corps and attended the Military Intelligence Officers Basic Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. His first assignment, in January of 2010, was to the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade, Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) at Fort Meade, Maryland. 

Kydes was assigned to the 742nd Military Intelligence Battalion as the Assistant Operations and Training Officer where he was later selected to serve as the Chief for Asymmetric Targeting for Afghanistan in the Expeditionary Operations Support Group of the National Security Agency. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as the lead for a Cryptologic Support Team (CST), and later returned to duty at Fort Meade where he served as the Assistant Operations Officer for the 742nd Military Intelligence Battalion until March 2014.

In October 2014, Kydes completed the Military Intelligence Major’s Career Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and was assigned as the Assistant Brigade Intelligence Officer for 4th Armor Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division Fort Bliss, Texas. Following his time at Brigade, he was selected as the S2 for 1st Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment (Task Force Dealer), a newly formed Combined Arms Battalion under the 3rd Armor Brigade Combat Team (Bulldogs), 1st Armored Division. As the Task Force Dealer Battalion S2, Kydes deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and the defeat of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Kydes redeployed in March 2017 after serving as the forward deployed S2 supporting 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Task Force Strike), 101st Airborne Division and 2nd Bridge Combat Team (Task Force Falcon), 82nd Airborne Division.

In 2018, Kydes was reassigned to Operations Group, National Training Center (NTC), Fort Irwin, California where he served as a Task Force Intelligence Observer Coach Trainer (OC/T). He continued serving at Fort Irwin after being selected by the Commanding General to be the NTC Chief of Protocol. In this role, Kydes facilitated over 350 official parties and over 500 distinguished visitors to include Congressmen, foreign dignitaries, the Secretary of the Army, the Army Vice Chief of Staff, and over 100 Flag Officers. In 2019, Kydes was assigned to the Pentagon as a Watch Officer in the Foreign Intelligence Watch Section of the Office of the Chief of Staff G-2, Department of the Army. At the Pentagon, he developed and briefed daily intelligence read books to Army Senior Leaders to include the Secretary of the Army, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Army Staff primaries.

In the summer of 2020, Kydes continued his Professional Military Education at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, while attending the Command and General Staff Officers’ Course. He graduated with a master’s degree in Operational Strategic Studies as well as pursued and completed a Master of Business Administration with the University of Kansas.

After completion of resident Intermediate Level Education in June 2021, Kydes served as the Brigade Intelligence Officer for the 201st Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, where he was responsible for synchronizing intelligence efforts between I Corps and subordinate Battalions in support of multiple Warfighter exercises. Kydes was then selected to serve as the Executive Officer for the 502d Intelligence Electronic Warfare (IEW) Battalion until transitioning to Fort Meade in July 2023.

Kydes currently serves as the Deputy Chief for Expeditionary Direct Support, Expeditionary Operations Support Group at the National Security Agency. He and his spouse are natives of the Northeast and have one child.  They both enjoy outdoor activities such as soccer, golf, and spoiling their golden doodle puppy.
