The Define & Design Your Success Mentorship Program allows company-grade officers to identify, or define, viable goals informed by their interests, skills and attributes, and to design a successful career – aligned to those same interests, skills and attributes – that is shaped and influenced by the coaching, feedback and experiences of trusted senior advisors.

Vision
The D2YS Mentorship Program encourages individual empowerment, fosters self actualization (fulfillment of one's unique talent and potential), and creates bonds between emerging and seasoned military intelligence leaders that spans across an entire career and beyond.

define & design your successThe rewarding challenge of serving as a Military Intelligence officer allows each leader to routinely exercise disciplined initiative, contribute to successful teams and grow as individuals. Over the past two decades MI officers served in combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq; lived in Japan, Germany and the Republic of Korea; and supported operations in the Horn of Africa, Philippines and Cuba. In all operations, our mission remains steadfast – provide commanders and warfighters with timely and accurate intelligence. The MI Branch remains postured to satisfy the challenging intelligence requirements for the Army of 2040 and remains the most sought after, dynamic and varied branch within the U.S. Army.

Key elements of D2YS MentorshipIt is critically important that junior Military Intelligence officers make informed decisions as they define success and design a career plan that aligns with both their professional goals and personal considerations. Each of the D2YS mentors offer a unique perspective on how to balance mandatory professional development requirements with opportunities that took them off the beaten path while remaining competitive for future service. Indeed, when you combine a genuine desire for mentorship from MI Lieutenants and Captains with a genuine commitment to mentor from senior MI Majors and above, then you create meaningful bonds that result in success, service and satisfaction for all involved.

  • Choice: Mentees (pre-Military Intelligence Captains Career Course students) choose a mentor (post-key development Major or above) with personal or professional experiences that align with their goals.
  • Connection: Mentees and mentors establish reoccurring meetings to foster an enduring bond.
  • Communication: Mentees and mentors facilitate two-way transparent and candid dialogue.
  • Collaboration: Mentees create a career plan grounded in their goals, but shaped by the mentor's advice.
  • Commitment: Mentees and mentors agree to a career-long bond that is mutually responsive during challenging and rewarding periods.
