Maj. Dan Miller grew up in Frederick, Maryland, and was commissioned through the Reserve Officer Training Program as an Armor officer after graduating from Virginia Tech in 2007.
Miller went to Fort Irwin, California, as his first duty assignment, serving in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. While there he served as a Tank Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, Armored Company Executive Officer, and an HHT Company Executive Officer. While there he supported numerous National Training Center (NTC) rotations and became very familiar with OPFOR tactics and techniques.
After leaving NTC, Miller went to the Military Intelligence (MI) Captains Career Course, transitioning from an Armor Officer to an MI Officer. After leaving the career course, he went to the 173rd Airborne Brigade located in Vincenza, Italy, and Grafenwöhr, Germany. While in the 173rd he deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom in Logar Province, Afghanistan, and served as a S2 Plans Officer and a Battalion S2. After the 173rd, Miller was selected for Detachment Command in the 66th MI Brigade, moving across Germany to Kaiserslautern, Germany where he stood up the Kaiserslautern MI Detachment. After two years in command, Miller went back to NTC as an Observer, Coach, Trainer (OC/T), serving in both the Cobra Team (Cavalry Trainers) and Bronco Team (BCT Trainers).
After NTC, Miller reported to the 1st Infantry Division (ID) where he served as the Deputy Division G2, ACE Chief, and 2nd BCT S2. Additionally, while with 1st ID, he deployed to Poland twice and Korea once. From 1st ID, he moved to Austin, Texas, joining Army Futures Command (AFC), where he served as the XO to the AFC Senior Intelligence Officer. Most recently, Miller completed a master's degree at the National Intelligence University and was selected for O5. Soon he will join the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for a utilization tour.
Miller holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Virginia Tech, a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Public Administration from Liberty University, and a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence in Information and Influence Intelligence, and Cyber Intelligence. He earned numerous decorations including one Bronze Star, five Meritorious Service Medals, and a Combat Action Badge.
Miller and his wife have four children.
