LTC_King_James_E_Photo.jpgLt. Col. Jim King, originally from Seattle, Washington, was commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry following his graduation from the University of Washington in the summer of 2002.

In 2004, King was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5 Infantry regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team 25th Infantry Division, at Fort Lewis. Washington. There he served as a Rifle Platoon leader, Assistant S3, and support platoon leader. While assigned to 1-5IN, he participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2004-05), serving in Fallujah and Mosul.

Following the completion of his branch detail in 2006 and graduation from the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course and Military Transition Team Course, King was assigned to a Military Transition Team as a Military Intelligence Advisor serving in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with an Iraqi Army BTR-80 Battalion in Taji and Mosul Iraqi from 2007-2008.

Upon redeployment, King was assigned to the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. There he served as the Brigade S2, Brigade Assistant S2, and Commander of D-Troop 2nd Squadron 1st Cavalry Regiment. During that time, he participated once again in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2009-2010) serving in Baghdad, Iraq.

From May of 2011 to April 2013, King served as the Light Battalion Task Force S2 OC/T at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, completing 17 rotations including the first Decisive Action rotation as a member of the Tarantula team. He later moved to the Lizard team where he served as the division intelligence planner responsible for scenario design and intelligence planning for several rotations.

In 2014, following completion of the Command and General Staff College Interagency Fellowship at the National Security Agency, King was assigned once again to 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division now located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. There he served as the Brigade S2 where he participated in Pacific Pathways in Japan and South Korea.

In 2017, King was assigned to the 312th Military Intelligence Battalion, 470th MI Brigade Fort Sam Houston, Texas, where he served as the acting commander while standing up the battalion and later Executive Officer and ACE Chief. LTC King then moved to the US Army South G2’s Chief of Intelligence Plans and later the G2X.

In July 2020, King was assigned to HQ USSOCOM at MacDill AFB FL, where he served as the J2X Operations Support Branch Chief, managing CI and HUMINT operations. Prior to serving on active duty, King served for six years in the Washington Army National Guard as a Military Police specialist and later in the U.S. Army Reserves as a Civil Affairs specialist. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), and Army Achievement Medal. King wears the Combat Infantryman’s badge and parachutist badge. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in Strategic Intelligence from American Military University.

King and his wife have three children.
