After completing the MI Officer Basic Course at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, he was assigned as the squadron assistant S2 for 2-9 Cavalry, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team (HBCT), 4th Infantry Division (ID) at Fort Carson, Colorado. In this position, he deployed to Salah al-Din and Diyala provinces, Iraq, from February to October 2006. He then became the squadron S2 for 4-10 Cavalry, 3rd HBCT, 4th ID. Establishing the section as the initial member, he led his team through the train-up and subsequent deployment to Baghdad, Iraq from December 2007 through February 2009.
Upon returning from Baghdad, he assessed into the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), which he joined following his completion of the MI Captains Career Course in December 2009. While serving as the S2 for 4-160 SOAR(A), he deployed three times to Afghanistan and once to Iraq as the S2 for a special operations task force. He next served as the analysis and control element (ACE) chief for the newly reactivated 7th ID at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. There he oversaw all intelligence training and readiness for the division headquarters and seven subordinate brigades.
In 2013 he began a broadening experience, first attending Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, earning a master's degree in Public Policy. He then served as an instructor and assistant professor of American politics in the Department of Social Sciences at West Point. He also served as an adjunct fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. in 2016. During this time, he completed the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff Officer Course.
From 2017 to 2020, Miller served in the 207th MI Brigade (Theater) in Wiesbaden, Germany. He first served as the XO and S3 for the 522nd MI Battalion and later as the Theater ACE Chief for U.S. Army Africa. In this assignment, he spearheaded the development of a data science pilot program for U.S. Army’s Intelligence and Security Command and U.S. Africa Command.
Miller recently served as a military liaison officer and Senior Defense Official, focusing on China, within the U.S. Intelligence Community.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Italian Parachutist Badge. He is also a recipient of the Knowlton Award.
He and his wife have three children.
