Fort Meade Families enjoy Story Walk thanks to AACPL
The walk around Burba Lake here at Fort Meade had a little something extra for families in mid-July.
In addition to the wildlife, scenery and occasional sounds of The U.S. Army Field Band practicing, dozens of families also enjoyed a story while strolling around the lake.
The Anne Arundel County Public Library once again brought their popular StoryWalk back to the installation.
“We are always excited to share our programming with the Fort Meade community,” said Laura Efrom, the Severn Branch Library Military Liaison. “We invite Fort Meade families to take advantage of all of the services and programs our library has to offer in addition to what is already offered at the post library”.
The summer StoryWalk, "Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away" by Meg Medina, is a story about two young friends who have to say goodbye when one of them moves away.
The story is a good fit for military children who are getting ready to move with their families during the height of PCS season, the time of year when many military families are changing duty stations in Permanent Change of Station moves.
Each page of the story is placed on a panel and includes questions for families to discuss as they walk around and read the story.
This summer story was bi-lingual.
If you walked one way around the lake you could read it in English, if you walked in the opposite direction you could read it in Spanish.
Story Walk is a seasonal event at Fort Meade and families can expect to see another one around Burba Lake in the fall.
