Colonel Fernand A. Thomassy was born in Washington, Pennsylvania. He earned a BS in General Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and a MS in Physical Chemistry from Penn State University.

Colonel Thomassy served in key leadership positions within the U.S. Army for 28 years. He served in a variety of assignments which have included Command of the U.S. Army Toxic and Hazardous Materials Agency and Program Manager for cleaning up Rocky Mountain Arsenal. He concluded his outstanding service as Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Army Chemical School responsible for managing the combat developments and training efforts of the Chemical Corps.

Colonel Thomassy’s leadership has led to significant improvements in the chemical readiness of the Army. Of particular note has been his superb management of the Combined Arms in a Nuclear and Chemical Environment (CANE) effort, numerous Army-wide reviews of the Chemical Program and modernization of the Chemical School’s Physical Plant.

Colonel Thomassy’s distinguished career has been an inspiration to all with whom he has served.
