Belvoir offers pit stop for Bike To Work Day

Fort Belvoir again participates in Bike To Work Day, May 20, by offering a pit stop to any cyclist-commuters who travel near the installation. Belvoir is one of almost 100 pit stop locations in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. The pit stop will be near Pence Gate, off Richmond Highway, in a safe spot on the right before the access control point. Pit-stop hours are 6:30-10 a.m.
John Nicklas, a safety specialist at the installation safety office, said there are many benefits to cycling. “In addition to building physical strength and endurance, cycling is a transportation means that doesn’t pollute and is far less expensive than driving or taking public transit,” he said. “Plus, it’s a great stress-reliever and a great way to start the day.”
Registration, first-time rider information and a pit stop finder is available through On the site, cyclists can also find a ride buddy and cyclist convoys led by experienced, volunteer bicycle commuters.
The first 15,000 cyclists who register on the site get a T-shirt and are eligible for giveaways, while supplies last.
