Group will hold auditions for ‘Star-Spangled Girl’

WATERTOWN – Little Theatre of Watertown has announced that auditions for Neil Simon’s play, “The Star-Spangled Girl,” will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 8 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 at Emmanuel Church, 119 S. Hamilton St., Watertown.

The story involves a love triangle, mixed with politics. Andy and Norman are Little Theatre of Watertown logo.jpgroommates and radicals who barely make a living working on their magazine, Fallout, which is dedicated to fighting “the system” in America. Sophie, a former Olympic swimmer, is an all-American Southern girl who moves into the apartment next door.

It’s love at first sight for Norman, but his feelings are not reciprocated. Norman’s obsession with Sophie makes Andy hire her just to keep the magazine going. Then Sophie falls for Andy, although they are at odds politically, threatening to destroy the magazine and the men’s friendship.

Parts are available for the following characters:

* Norman – male, mid-20s to late 30s. Writer of Fallout magazine. He is a naïve star-crossed lover whose feelings are not reciprocated.

* Andy – male, mid-20s to late 30s. Editor of Fallout magazine. Best friend of Norman who tries to knock some sense into Norman about his feelings.

* Sophie – female, mid-20s to late 30s. Conservative Southern belle who was an Olympic swimmer. Caught in between Andy and Norman’s relationship.

Show dates will be April 25-27 and May 3-5.
