Hot dogs, hamburgers and other tailgating fare were the foods of the day at Twin Lakes as Fort Jackson garrison employees gathered to enjoy fun and games away from the work environment.

The garrison organizational day, which took place Oct. 31, was the first time the employees came together for such an event since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

“I am very happy everyone came out today,” said Col. Ryan Hanson, garrison commander to open the festivities. “This is something we want to start again, especially after COVID.”

The different directorates grilled food or bought some at the few food trucks available. The fare included brats, chicken wings, hamburgers and even corn on the cob. Individuals or directorate teams competed in various competitions including volleyball, cornhole, bingo and spades.

It was also a time for people to grow closer together.

“I feel like relationships are growing,” Hanson said.

He said the event was also a way to say ‘thank you’ to employees.

“It was a pleasure being out here today and thanks on behalf of myself and Command Sgt. Maj. (Cesar Duran),” he said.
