Environmental Assessment – NEW Recreational vehicle (RV) storage lot

NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD

Pursuant to Section 102(2)(C) of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as implemented by the Council on Environmental Quality Regulations (40 Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] Parts 1500‑1508), the U.S. Department of the Army announces the availability for public review and comment of an Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FNSI) to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of a new RV storage lot on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM).

The purpose of the proposed action is to support the Directorate of Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) at JBLM by continuing to provide leisure activities that support a quality of life commensurate with generally accepted American values, fostering pride in one’s community, and easing the impacts of military life.  On JBLM, Service Members are not permitted to store their RVs outside their homes and there is currently a waitlist for RV storage space.  The closest Department of Defense (DoD) installations that offer RV storage are greater than 20 miles from JBLM.  By establishing an additional RV storage lot, JBLM will continue to provide recreational facilities for service members and their families.

A 30-day public comment period is being held to receive written comments on the EA and Draft FNSI.  Members of the public, government agencies, and tribes are invited to review and comment on the EA and Draft FNSI.

The EA and draft FNSI are available online for public review at:
