FINDING A JOB ON JBLM

There are numerous organizations at JBLM that post employment opportunities. There are several options for those who want to work on base.

Federal employment:

  • All U.S. government employment opportunities - including civil service positions, military technicians and most non-appropriated fund activities (including JBLM MWR and Commissaries) are posted at USAJobs.gov.
  • JBLM AAFES (The Exchange, formerly BX/PX) hiring info is at ⚠ http://odin.aafes.com/employment/base/ftlewis.htm.

Military contracts:

  • Government organizations may contract for services or skilled support provided by private companies whose employees perform work on JBLM. These companies post their own hiring announcements. JBLM does not have a list of available (or projected) vacancies and is not involved in the hiring process.
  • Employers will assist new hires in applying for base access through the installation's security office.
     

FOR MILITARY FAMILIES AT JBLM

Directorate of Human Resources (DHR)

  • The DHR Employment Readiness office provides classes and one-on-one counseling support to all Department of Defense ID cardholders, with an emphasis on military spouses. Areas of service available include, but are not limited to: career counseling, resume building basics, resume reviews and critiques (corporate and federal), interview preparation, personal branding and preparing for job/career fairs.   • ⚠JBLM Unlimited on Facebook* lists employment opportunities and events for military family members, transitioning service members and veterans with non-federal employers in the local commuting area and private employers with career opportunities at locations nationwide. The site also features employment videos and a live stream show.
  • Military Spouse Licensure: Are you looking to utilize your current professional license in the state of WA but do not know where to start? Did you know most licensure fees may be paid for and there may be an expedited process for obtaining your license? Visit the ⚠ MySECO webpage on Military OneSource* for more information on reimbursement processes by branch, or contact our office for assistance.
  • The Hawk Career Center is open to all transitioning service members, military spouses, veterans, retirees, surviving spouses and DOD employees.  This facility houses the Employment Readiness and the TAP programs. This is your one stop shop for all thing employment including resume and career assistance, networking and hiring events, short term certification programs, state employment resources, internships and many more programs designed to assist the Military Spouse and Servicemember achieve their career goals.

Child, Youth & School Age Services:

  • Summer employment opportunities for high school and college-age military family members are listed as NAF positions on USAJobs.gov.
     

FOR TRANSITIONING SERVICE MEMBERS

Military Career Transition Support:

The  Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is JBLM's joint-service transition support organization. The Transition Assistance Program helps service members and their spouses prepare for a smooth and successful transition from military service into civilian life. *Service members are encouraged to start the TAP process early (up to two years prior to separation for military retirees, up to 12 months prior to separation for most other personnel).

  • The JBLM office is located inside the Hawk Career Center (11577 41st Division Drive on Lewis North). Services include: career counseling, interview prep and resume workshops, job fairs and other specialized career recruitment programs.
  • The Education Center has additional information about vocational training opportunities, apprenticeship programs and internships. Some programs can be completed while still on active duty at no cost to the service member, or are eligible for funding via your service's tuition assistance or GI Bill benefits. Internships are typically completed for experience or college credit. Apprenticeships include paid training and job search assistance or priority placement upon successful completion of the program.
