MEDICAL RETIREMENT CHECKLIST
ACTIVE GUARD RESERVES (AGR)

1. Soldier or Unit, Human Resources Professional initiates and submits Admin Records Correction Personnel Action Request (PAR) request for retirement (voluntary).  Unit S1 HR Pro will validate the applicable documents in accordance with checklist A-11-6 found in USARC G1 Personnel Actions Guide (PAG).

2. G-1/S-1, HR Pro will route to the first O-6 Commander in the chain of command for signature. G1/S-1, HR Pro at the O-6 level will submit the Soldier's Admin Records Correction PAR request for retirement (voluntary) to HRC. Retirement packet will be submitted to the respective UDL for HRC RPMD-ORD-RSM Branch for Retirement and Separation.

NOTE: Retirement request must be submitted to HRC no earlier than 24 months and no less than 9 months from effective date of retirement, if applicable a letter of lateness signed by O-7/GO for late submissions. Failure to adhere to this timeline will result in return of retirement request for date correction.

RETIREMENT PREPARATION AND INFORMATION

  • Soldiers may submit retirement and qualify for the 24-month ETP if they are not participating in an assignment, market or distribution cycle.
  • Soldiers with greater than 18 years of active federal service (AFS) who have not received official notification of PCS may request retirement no less than 9 months and not more than 24 months before their requested retirement date (under ETP).
  • Not one single part of the retirement process requires orders (excluding Transportation).
  • Benefits Delivery at Discharge (BDD Claim): Retirement orders are not required to request a VA physical. The only requirement is to request the appointment no earlier than 180 days out from retirement date.
  • Retirement Physical: Soldiers need to schedule their Separation History & Physical Exam (SHPE) early!! IAW DoDI 6040.46, Orders are not required to schedule the SHPE. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
  • Mandatory Retirement Brief and Survivor Benefit Plan Brief do not require orders. See time and place under hours of operation.

How to calculate your retirement pay.
1.       Visit MY ARMY BENEFITS
2.       Select Retirement under Benefit Calculators.
3.       Press Launch Calculator.
4.       Sign in with your Common Access Card (CAC).
5.       Verify your contact information.
6.       Select your retirement type.
7.       Answer the Career Status Bonus question.
8.       Key in your tentative retirement date (must be the first of the month).
9.       Press Calculate.
The calculator will provide you with your High-3, a multiplier (based on time served) and your expected retirement pay.
Please remember that this is only an estimate and that DFAS will calculate your actual retirement pay upon retirement.

How do I request my clearing papers?
All requests must come in the form of an e-mail.
Walk-ins are only allowed under special circumstances (short suspense or emergency situations).
Fill out and e-mail the OUT-PROCESSING APPOINTMENT FORM along with SEPARATION ORDERS and IPPS-A ABSENCE REQUEST TO: usarmy.liberty.usag.mbx.dhr-smd@army.mil.
When can I pick up my installation clearing papers?
You can pick up installation clearing papers 10 calendar days prior to the start of your PTDY/transition leave or separation date if not taking leave. This date will be scheduled by the out-processing office.

The following documents are needed to schedule appointment without orders.

1. This memorandum.

2. Assumption of Command Orders for Commander that signed the memo.

3. Service Member's Soldier Talent Profile (found on IPPS-A).
