Mission
The Fort Bragg Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) provides Casualty, Mortuary, Survivor Outreach Services, Funeral/Burial Honors, and other support and guidance services to North Carolina Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families. The Fort Bragg CAC is the go-to on all Army casualty issues and guidance for their Area Of Responsibility (AOR) of North Carolina.
Services offered include Benefits and Entitlements; Casualty Assistance; Casualty Assistance Officer Information; Funeral/Mortuary Affairs; Honors Program; Line of Duty; Notification; and Transportation Motor Pool.
Casualty Notification Officer (CNO) / Casualty Assistance Officer (CAO)
CNO/CAO will report to Casualty Assistance Center when notified. CNO/CAO’s must be CAC trained with up-to-date training certificates. Upon arrival a one-on-one briefing on their case will also be conducted. CNO/CAO’s will hold the rank of SFC or higher. Officers will hold the rank of CPT or higher. Warrant Officers will hold CW2 and higher.
Funeral Honors Program
Fort Bragg's Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) is responsible for coordinating military honors for the following:
Honors team personnel will consist of the below In Accordance With (IAW) XVIII Airborne Corps Policy, Department of Defense Instructions (DoDI) & Army Regulation (AR):
a. ACTIVE DUTY (AD), RETIREE (RET), MEDAL OF HONOR (MOH), & FORMER PRISONER OF WAR (POW) honors teams will consist of NINE (9) PERSONNEL detail ONLY. Detail will consist of nine personnel for playing of TAPS, pallbearing/firing party, folding and presentation of flag to Next Of Kin (NOK).
b. VETERAN (VET) honor teams will consist of TWO (2) PERSONNL ONLY. Detail will consist of two personnel for the playing of TAPS, folding and presentation of flag to Next Of Kin (NOK).
c. Military honors are done only ONE time. If military honors have already been rendered whether local or in another state/country, the request will be denied.

Casualty Assistance Center (CAC)
Provides training to unit FRG, Installation committees or boards, and HRC training certifications for casualty programs to manpower used to assist the next of kin. For additional detailed information on our mission and the Army Casualty Program refer to AR 638-8.
Line of Duty
Line of duty investigations are conducted to establish the legal conclusion as to whether the Soldier was at fault at the time of his injury or death. Line of duty investigations are important to the Soldier if an injury occurs while the Soldier is on active duty in order for him/her to receive medical care upon departure from active duty. Veteran Affairs or other facilities will not treat Soldiers for injuries unless service connection is proven. This is done by the LODI.
Casualty Assistance Vehicle Transportation Resources
The Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) will provide transportation for Soldiers tasked with Military Burial/Planeside Honors, Casualty Assistance Officer and Casualty Notification Officer duties. Contact the CAC at 910-396-9901 for information and guidance.
Casualty Assistance Center’s Trainer
Provides certified in-person training to Fort Bragg on the Casualty Assistance Officer and Casualty Notification Officer training. Conducts/coordinates unit level and CORPS level training on casualty operational needs such as summary court martial officer, escort and benefit counseling.
