St. Lawrence County officials announce three additional positive COVID-19 tests

CANTON, N.Y. (March 26, 2020) – St. Lawrence County Public Health Department officials learned of three additional positive test results and confirmed these results for Coronavirus (COVID-19) within St. Lawrence County today. All confirmed cases are individuals residing in St. Lawrence County.

With four confirmed cases in total at this time, all individuals have been isolated at home and are being monitored by the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department. The staff is also contacting anyone who may have been in contact with these individuals to determine whether quarantine or testing may be required.

As with all the communicable diseases the public health departments are required to report to New York State Department of Health, there are many facts related to cases that officials are unable to share. It is important to maintain anonymity of all individuals involved. Knowing where cases are located should not change anyone’s actions.

Coronavirus is highly contagious disease. Everyone needs to help slow the community spread and ensure our health systems can handle the potential patient load.

Officials are asking the public to not panic, as they are doing everything they can to protect the health of our communities.

With four confirmed cases, officials ask the public’s help in following these recommendations to stay healthy:

  • STAY HOME! Travel only for essential needs: medical, groceries, and employment. In public, keep at least 6 feet distance from others.
  • Regularly self-monitor your own symptoms. Be on alert if you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
  • Contact your provider if you need medical care; call ahead so they are ready for you.
  • Separate yourself from others (self-isolate) by using a separate bedroom and bathroom and avoid sharing all personal items if you:

o have symptoms of fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath;

o have been tested for COVID-19; or

o have traveled back from an area within New York state with significant numbers of confirmed cases.

If you have recently returned from travel and have questions on whether you should self-isolate, contact the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department at (315) 244-4542.

Meanwhile, if you have additional questions regarding COVID-19, contact the St. Lawrence County COVID-19 Call Center at (315) 229-3970 or email eoccallcenter@stlawco.org.
