North Country residents invited
to join in Armed Forces Day Monument to Monument 5K Run
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (April 23, 2022) – The City of Watertown and the Watertown Family YMCA will host the first-ever Monument to Monument 5K Run to Glory on May 21. North Country residents are invited to demonstrate their support of the 10th Mountain Division (LI) by running alongside active-duty, reserve, National Guard, and retired service members.
The run is a revised version of the former Memorial to Monument Run last held in 2019. This event offers the community an opportunity where civilians and active and retired military can run side-by-side, acting as a symbol of the connection the military community has with its North Country neighbors.
The run, which is part of the Armed Forces Day celebration, will begin and end at the Honor the Mountain monument in Thompson Park. The Armed Forces Day Parade will follow in Downtown Watertown beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Participation options for the race include a 5K run or a 3K walk/run. Online registration is now open. Visit https://www.watertownymca.org/events/2022-monument-monument-5k-run-glory.
Online registration will close at 9 p.m. May 18. Packet pickups for participants will be from noon to 6 p.m. May 19, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20, at the Fairgrounds Y location at 585 Rand Drive, Watertown.
Last call registration and packet pickup will take place at the Honor the Mountain Monument in Thompson Park, from 7 to 8 a.m. on race day. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Race results and medal awards will be announced immediately following.
