CSM Kevin M. Vanliew

CSM Kevin M. Vanliew is a native of Saginaw, Michigan. He enlisted in the United States Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and completed Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he earned the MOS 13J, Fire Control Specialist. His previous duty assignments include Battery Display Operator, Fire Direction Chief, Chief Fire Direction Computer, Battery Operations Sergeant, Senior Writer/Instructor, First Sergeant, Brigade Operations Sergeant, Battalion Operations Sergeant Major, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Brigade Operations Sergeant Major, and Division Fires Operations Sergeant Major. His stateside assignments include Fort Sill, OK, Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA, Fort Bliss, TX, and Fort Carson, CO. His overseas assignments include multiple tours to the Republic of South Korea.

He has also served on multiple combat deployments to include Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Spartan Shield, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

CSM Vanliew’s military and civilian education includes: Basic Leader’s Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 69), Master Resilience Training Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Professional Military Education I and II, Small Group Instructor Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Army Recruiter Course, Test Construction Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, Airborne School, Target Mensuration Course, and Combat Lifesaver Course. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Public Health from Excelsior College and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (8 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (7 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (7 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (w/star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/ 1 star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (w/ 4 stars), Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal (w/ star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (numeral 9), Meritorious Unit Citation (2 OLC), the Superior Unit Award, and the Combat Action Badge. CSM Vanliew is a recipient of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara and a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
