COL Aidan Shattock

COL Aidan Shattock joined the New Zealand Army in January 1997 and completed his training at the New Zealand Officer Cadet School, graduating into the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment in December 1999.

He held regimental appointments in both of the New Zealand Army Infantry Battalions. He was posted to 2nd/1st Battalion where he held the appointments of Platoon Commander, Company Second in Command, Battalion Adjutant, and Company Commander. COL Shattock also commanded the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.

COL Shattock held instructional posts at the Combat School as Executive Officer, Acting Chief Instructor, and Senior Instructor Small Arms Wing. During this period, he captained the New Zealand Army Combat Shooting Team. He was then the Chief Instructor of Non-Commissioned Officer’s School and Second in Command of Army Command School.

COL Shattock held several staff appointments including Chief of Staff for 1st (NZ) Brigade and the G7 for New Zealand Army. He also held the role of New Zealand’s Military Attaché & Assistant Defense Attaché to the United States based in Washington D.C.

COL Shattock completed several operational deployments to East Timor, Sinai, and two to Afghanistan.

COL Shattock is a graduate of Australian Command and Staff College and a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Army War College Class of 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, a Master of Arts degree in Strategy and Policy, and a Masters of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College.

COL Shattock was awarded the Legion of Merit for his work as the Military Attaché.

COL Shattock is married to Shannon, and together they have a son and a daughter.
