1SG Sammy Lewis Jr.
1SG Sammy Lewis Jr. was born at Scott Air Force base in Springfield, Illinois and raised in San Antonio, Tx. After graduating from John Jay High School, he attended Texas State University in San Marcos, TX for one year prior to joining the United States Army. He enlisted in 2006, as an Army Bandsman (42R) and attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
After graduating from AIT the US Army School of Music in Little Creek Naval Amphibious base, he was assigned to Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. His follow-on assignments include 1ST Armored Division, Wiesbaden, Germany; USAEUR Band & Chorus, Heidelberg, Germany; USARJ Band, Camp Zama, Japan; 8TH Army, South Korea; 6TH REC BDE HQ, Las Vegas, NV; and ARNORTH JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas. 1SG Lewis deployed to Iraq in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Iraqi New Dawn.
1SG Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Maryland and a Master of Business Administration with a focus in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the Incarnate Word University, San Antonio, TX. MSG Lewis continues to leverage his education and Army experience to help others realize the possibilities of turning their passion into their profession while serving their country and taking care of Soldiers.
As a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, 1SG Lewis co-founded the first men’s mentorship program in the USARJ command. This program was responsible for bridging the generational gap between senior leaders and the junior enlisted to help drive team cohesion and esprit de corp. He helped to develop a positive impact in the community by volunteering his time to work with the Boy Scouts of America and supporting the Special Olympics as a mentor.
1SG Lewis is married and has two children.
