CSM Thinh T. Huynh

Command Sergeant Major Thinh T. Huynh was born in South Vietnam. He escaped out of Vietnam in 1986. After spending 13 days adrift at sea, he finally landed in Malaysia. CSM Huynh spent the next two and half years in refugee camps between Malaysia and the Philippines. He arrived to America in September 1989 when he was 12 years old. CSM Huynh attended and graduated Nevada High School in Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1997 as an Airborne Infantryman. He completed Initial Entry Training, Advanced Individual Training, and Airborne School at Fort Benning, GA in July 1997.
CSM Huynh has held a variety of leadership positions throughout his career including: Team Leader, Ranger Instructor, Joint Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Airborne Infantry Battalion Command Sergeant Major.
His previous assignment include: 1/504th PIR CSM (Ft. Bragg, NC); 2/504th PIR Operations Sergeant Major (Ft. Bragg, NC); Basic Leader Course First Sergeant (Ft. Stewart, GA); Command Sergeant Major of Army Forces Battalion Joint Task Force Bravo (Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras); 1SG of the HSC Company, Army Forces Battalion JTF-Bravo (Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras); 1SG D Co., a Heavy Weapons Company, 2nd BN., 1st BDE. 504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Division (Ft. Bragg, NC); Platoon Sergeant in A Co. and D Co., 2nd BN., 1st BDE. 504th PIR (Ft. Bragg, NC); Ranger Instructor, Senior Ranger Instructor and Platoon Sergeant at 6th Ranger Training Bn. (Eglin Air Force Base, FL); Team Leader, Squad Leader and Weapons Squad Leader, B Co., 3rd BN., 3rd BDE. 505th PIR (Ft. Bragg, NC); Team Leader, Machine Gunner and Rifleman in Black Foot Company 1st BN, 501st PIR (Fort Richardson, AK).
His operational deployments include Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and an emergency deployment in CENTCOM AOR.
CSM Huynh military education includes: Basic Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course and Sergeants Major Course (Class 67). His additional schools include: Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, SERE School, Basic Instructor Training, Equal Opportunity Management Course, Air Movement Operations, Contracting Officer Representative, Combatives Level 1, and Combat Life Saver Course.
CSM Huynh is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree.

CSM Huynh is married and has two children.
