COL Matthew J. Scher
Originally from New Jersey, Colonel Matt Scher graduated from Princeton University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Psychology and was commissioned into Army Aviation. He and his wife have been married for 13 years.
He began active service at Fort Drum, New York in the 10th Mountain Division and has since served in the 25th Infantry Division; an Aviation Special Mission Unit; again in the 25th Infantry Division; a Joint Interagency Task Force in the National Capital Region; and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). Most recently he served as the Director of Concepts for the US Army Pacific. Beginning in 2003, he led and commanded units at various levels in both Iraq and Afghanistan and has deployed globally throughout his career for operations and exercises.
His military education includes the Initial Entry Rotary Wing Aviator Course, Aviation Officer Basic, and Advanced Courses, Combined Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and the Naval War College.
He is a graduate of the Aviation Officer's Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
Colonel Scher holds a Master's in Business Administration from Yale University and Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.
Colonel Scher is a Master Army Aviator who has earned the Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Military Freefall Parachutist Badge, and has been inducted into the Army Aviation Association of America Order of St. Michael (Bronze) and the US Armor and Cavalry Association Order of St. George (Bronze).
