The Range Branch personnel operate 47 live-fire ranges and 18 major training areas, while supporting more than 18,500 active-duty Soldiers of the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division (LI) and an annual Department of Defense, Army Reserve and Army National Guard population of more than 21,500.

The support starts with coordination that identifies the Soldier and unit training requirements and transitions to planning and scheduling for the right mix of ranges and training areas required to support the unit’s training plan. The staff continues their support through unit preparation assisting in surface danger zone development and target coordination. Throughout the execution of the training event, Range Branch continues to provide support through communications, training land and airspace clearance, coordination for medical support during real-world medical emergencies, and maintenance technical support. Upon completion of the training event, Range Branch personnel assist the unit in returning the training resource back to its original state, in preparation for the next using unit.

Range Branch supports training on a 24/7 schedule to ensure our Soldiers and leaders get the best possible training experience.

Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM)

The Fort Drum ITAM program provides Range Branch with the capabilities to manage and maintain training lands and support mission readiness and the METL (mission essential tasks list). ITAM integrates the mission requirements derived from the Range and Training Land Program (RTLP), with environmental requirements and environmental management practices, and establishes the policies and procedures to achieve optimum, sustainable use of training and testing lands by implementing a uniform land management program.
