The Fort Riley Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) is professionally staffed by U.S. Army Veterinary Command Personnel. The VTF provides preventive medicine, vaccinations, sick call, and health certificates for both Interstate and International travel to animals by Active Duty and Retired DoD service members, and their dependents. Reservists called to active duty for 180 days or more may receive services from the VTF. Clients must show a valid Military I.D. card before services are rendered.
All pets residing in on post housing must be registered with Fort Riley Veterinary Service and have a microchip per Garrison Policy #15. Stray or runaway animals are captured by the MPs and taken to the VTF. This requirement ensures the pet and owner can be reunited. You must bring all pet records along with a valid ID to bldg. 226 during normal business hours. If your pets were seen at another Military Installation, we can transfer the electronic records. There is no cost for registering and it takes approximately 10-20 minutes.
You must be registered before scheduling an appointment. The VTF offers appointments for routine vaccines, preventive care a limited of sick calls, surgeries, and laboratory services. Please call for more information on services provided.
Installation Pet Policy
Fort Riley Reg. 40-18 Pet Control and Disease Prevention and Garrison policy letter #15 – Fort Riley Banned Dog Breed and Animal Control policy covers the requirements for animals residing on the Fort Riley. All dogs and cats living on Fort Riley are required to have a microchip and current rabies and distemper vaccines.
This service is available at the VTF by appointment. The cost is $25 for the chip plus wellness examination $35.
Shipping your pet overseas
When you are ready to PCS to an international location, we have the most current information to make the transition easier for you and your pet. Make plans well in advance. In particular, Korea, Japan and Hawaii require tests, lab work and shots that may take several weeks to complete. Please come to the clinic with all medical records and we will let you know what is required and assist you in preparing your pet for the move.
