Fort Riley, "Home of the Big Red One" (1st Infantry Division), is known for its excellent training, abundant recreational opportunities, rich history, and tremendous relations with surrounding communities.

The website is intended to provide value-added information about the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, its units, and the Central Flint Hills Region to Soldiers, Family members, the Army, and the public. In addition, the website is intended to provide information on installation services, communicate our quality of life, assist in conducting installation business, and promote Fort Riley as an excellent installation.

LOCATION

Fort Riley is a FORSCOM installation and the home of the Army's First and most storied Division — 1st Infantry Division — "The Big Red One", located in the in the Central Flint Hills region of northeastern Kansas. The post is one hour west of Topeka, the state capital and two and a half hours west of Kansas City and boosts a variety of thriving communities, with the closest to Fort Riley being Junction City, Ogden and Manhattan. The area is primarily rural in character with an outstanding public school system and consortium of colleges and universities. For these reasons the area is considered a great place for raising children, as well as a place for military retirees and their families.

POPULATION
Fort Riley serves a population of more than 67,000 including approximately 15,400 active duty members, 19,600 family members, 6,100 civilian employees as well as 26,000 retirees and veterans who live in the region and/or work at the post. In addition Fort Riley provides support for a significant number of National Guard and Reserve members from the region including Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa.
