Commonly called "The Log Cabin", the Durrett House is located in the Cole Park neighborhood. The house was built by Winfield Durrett, a master carpenter. He constructed much of the home himself using different materials including wood framing that covers portions of the sides and rear facades, stone chimney, stone masonry walls, and hand-hewn logs from felled red and white chestnut trees from Stewart County.
After three years of planning and construction, the Durrett family moved into the house on March 4, 1933. They lived in the house until 1942 when the US Government acquired the property to build Fort Campbell. Because of its design, character and craftsmanship, the Durrett House is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C.
