Before Fort Campbell
This book is a general history of the area that would later become Fort Campbell. It focuses on the farms, families and communities that lived here before WWII. This book was developed by the Cultural Resources Management Program to fulfill requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. The book is free to download by clicking here. It is PDF format, suitable for most e-readers.
Additionally, there is a teaching guide available as a companion to the book. This curriculum is based on a five-day lesson plan for grades 5 and 11. Information from the book Before Fort Campbell: History, Landscape, and Communities is presented in a series of five PowerPoint presentations, each intended to run approximately 20 minutes in length, supported by learning activities. The curriculum is aligned with the Tennessee Social Studies Standards. Please send an email to ronald.i.grayson.civ@army.mil to request a copy.
