Purpose: To train newly commissioned Lieutenants in basic military skills and to prepare them for initial assignment as Chemical officers.
 
Scope: CBRN BOLC prepares Lieutenants for assignment as a CBRN platoon leader and Battalion level CBRN staff officer. The course provides knowledge of radiation fundamentals; CBRN reconnaissance and decontamination operations; hazardous material operations; obscurant operations; CBRN staff functions; staff operations; administrative procedures; organizational and personnel management; logistics operations; individual/unit training; and individual and unit tactical operations.
 
Prerequisites: Active Component or Reserve Component Lieutenants assigned or under orders to a 74A chemical officer position and who have attended and graduated from BOLC-A. U.S. Active Army officers incur a 1-year service obligation upon course completion.
 
Special Information: American Council on Education, in its May 2016 report, the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Programs Evaluation recommended the USACBRNS BOLC earn the following: In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category: 3 semester hours in leadership fundamentals, 3 semester hours in emergency planning and response, and 3 semester hours in introduction to hazardous materials and in the upper-division baccalaureate category: 3 semester hours in applied leadership.
