The JBLM Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP)  provides education and early intervention to help commanders and service members reduce lifestyle risk factors to increase healthy outcomes. We are committed to understanding our supported units and their missions, anticipating what is needed to sustain mission readiness, and proudly serving as a valued member of the commander’s battle staff.

Red Ribbon Week for Drug Awareness is in October

October 23rd- October 31st is recognized as Red Ribbon Week, an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985.

December is National Drunk & Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month

Since 1981, this campaign has helped raise awareness of the perils of driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. With this period being the peak of the holiday season after Thanksgiving and before New Year’s, it is imperative to not only be aware during your travel but to also have a plan.

Here are some tips:
⇒ Plan ahead and designate a sober driver
⇒ Serve food along with alcohol free beverages at gatherings
⇒ Stop serving alcohol 1 to 2 hours before the end of gatherings

Drink responsibly, drive responsibly, and encourage others to do the same!
