JBLM SAFELINE (24/7)

Victim advocates are available 24 hours/7days a week to provide assistance to adult victims of domestic abuse. Victim Advocates can offer restricted and unrestricted reporting options for domestic abuse on a case by case basis.

Advocacy services include, but are not limited to; safety planning, referrals to military and civilian resources, and acting as a liaison between Commanders and victims.

Family Advocacy Program (FAP)

FAP Victim Advocate Program

The Victim Advocate program supports victims of domestic abuse. FAP has victim advocates available across JBLM for active duty service members, their current or former spouses, those with whom they share a child in common or have lived together as intimate partners. This is a voluntary program which focuses on safety planning, support, information and referrals. Services are available for both restricted and unrestricted reports. Domestic abuse encompasses different types of abuse using the acronym ESPN- Emotional, Sexual, Psychological, and Neglect.

Legal Assistance

The Legal Assistance Offices are staffed by licensed and trained attorneys and paralegals. These professionals have experience across a wide range of legal issues, including divorce law, protection orders, and child custody disputes. Legal Assistance addresses different legal needs based on service models for domestic violence victims. Wraparound services include case management with flexibility and collaboration with other stakeholders, including FAP and civilian domestic violence counterparts. JBLM Main and McChord Legal Assistance are independent of each other, but may coordinate to provide services to eligible individuals.

Special Victims’ Counsel (SVC)

SVCs are military attorneys who provide legal representation and advice to eligible victims of sex-related offenses and domestic violence offenses. SVCs empower their clients by fostering an understanding of the military justice and administrative process. SVCs ensure victims know, understand, and exercise their rights throughout the military justice process and help them meet their client’s needs.

Air Force Victim Witness Assistance Program (VWAP)

VWAP ensures that all identified victims are aware of and can access both Department of Defense (DoD) and civilian resources available to them that will assist in navigating the military justice system and assist in trauma recovery.

Army Victim Witness Liaison (VWL)

Like VWAP, the Army Victim Witness Liaison (VWL) assists victim witnesses in the court martial process. The VWL works with law enforcement, Family Advocacy Program, Military Justice, and other agencies to ensure that victims and witnesses are informed of their rights and are protected from harm. The VWL also helps victims navigate the transitional compensation program.

PROGRAMS & SERVICES

New Parent Support Program

The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) promotes healthy Families through a variety of services including home visits, support groups, and parenting classes. We help service members and families learn to cope with stress, isolation, post-deployment reunions, and the everyday demands of parenthood. Military Families who are expecting a child or who have children up to age three can participate in all of our services confidentially and free of charge.

Victim Advocacy Program

Advocacy services include, but are not limited to safety planning, referrals to military and civilian resources, and act as a liaison between Commanders and victims. They are also available to provide guidance and assistance to Chain of Commands dealing with domestic abuse incidents.

Mandatory Unit Training & Command Team Briefings

  • IAW AR 608-18 paragraph 3-2 all units are required to receive annual training on the dynamics of domestic abuse and child abuse.
  • Commanders and Senior Enlisted Advisors are required to receive a desk-side briefing within 90 days of taking command.
  • This training must be conducted by a Family Advocacy Program Specialist.

    A five-step seminar designed to prevent divorce abuse; a specific type of emotional abuse divorcing parents inflict when feelings of anger and/or bitterness causes them to lose sight of their child's needs. This course has been approved by the Superior Court of the State of Washington and is open to all DoD ID Card holders, free of charge.

Anger Management

  • Anger Control Training (ACT)
    16 Hours - Delivered in eight 2-hour sessions
    This class will help participants identify if they are angry or under stress, as well as teach participants helpful ways of dealing with their emotions.
    ACT is offered for Men, Women, and Teens. Participants must be able to attend all 8 modules.

    Learn the brain science of stress and anger, and explore how unmanaged stress can impact relationships.
