Mission:

The Fort Drum Garrison Safety Office executes the garrison commander’s safety program through a venue of program requirements to include but not limited to safety-based training, awareness, and compliance inspection programs, thereby enhancing readiness and creating a safe and healthy environment for working, living, and recreational activities on Fort Drum.

Key Services:

  • Workplace safety for garrison Soldiers and civilian employees: Contact us to attend monthly training conducted on a variety of safety topics, to address an unsafe condition in your workplace, or to receive assistance with writing a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).

  • Facility inspections: We inspect all garrison facilities annually or more often as necessary. We assist tenant units with their facility inspections, based on support agreements, and provide advice.

  • Facility work orders for unsafe conditions: We assist the Directorate of Public Works in evaluating and prioritizing safety-related work orders.

  • Collateral or Additional Duty Safety Officer (CDSO/ADSO) Training. These are online courses that are required within 30 days of appointment. We provide additional training by way of an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outreach instructor and issue cards after successful completion.

  • Accident reporting: We advise/train garrison supervisors and safety officers on the use of the online accident reporting program, also known as “Report It.”

Note: Review Army Regulation 385-10, The Army Safety Program, Chapter 3, for thresholds for reporting injuries and property damage and please report all “near misses.”

Near misses are reported in ASMIS 2.0 “Mishap and Near Miss Reporting Tool” at the Army Safety portal at the following link: https://mishap.safety.army.mil.

The “Near Misses” are captured and reviewed to identify trends and evaluate mitigation measures to prevent reoccurrence.  If you witness or have a “Near Miss” and feel it needs addressing immediately, contact your supervisor.

  • Army Traffic Safety Training Program: Courses include motorcycle safety training, intermediate traffic safety training and remedial drivers training. See your battalion motorcycle mentor for information on attending a course. See your brigade safety professional for information on additional traffic safety training courses.

  • Explosives safety: We issue arms room licenses and staff any requests for ammunition and explosives in the cantonment area. See your brigade safety professional to start the process.
