Welcome to Fort Buchanan Puerto Rico. Fort Buchanan is located in the metropolitan area of San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico. Known as the “Island of Enchantment” Puerto Rico offers a variety of landscapes, from white sandy beaches to lush green mountains and tropical forests. The island, approximately 100 miles by 35 miles, has a diverse and rich culture, a mix from the Spanish, Africans and Taínos present in the music, cuisine and welcoming character of Puerto Ricans.
U.S. Army Garrison Fort Buchanan consists of 746.16 acres including, Las Colinas (Army Family Housing), with a real estate value estimated at $560 million dollars. It serves a population of approximately 130,000 among veterans, retirees, civilians, military personnel and their dependents in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Latin America.
Fort Buchanan also hosts a number of non-DoD organizations that provide valuable services to Soldiers, their dependants and community members, such as: Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, AAFES Concessionaires and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol
The Relocation Readiness Program provides assistance to military and civilian employees and their families prior to, during, and after a PCS move. Newcomers receive a welcome packet, an orientation on garrison programs and services with additional information about the local culture, and customs.
