Things to know when traveling to Fort Buchanan

How to get to Fort Buchanan from Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU):
As you exit the Airport stay on your far right lane.
Make a right turn at the exit to PR-26 (the sign reads “Isla Verde/San Juan”, also known as Baldorioty de Castro.
You will enter a service road and then PR-26 to your left.
Follow the signs towards San Juan.
Stay on your far right lane.
In approximately 1.5 miles take the exit towards PR-22 (the sign reads “Bayamón/Caguas).
Once you take that exit you will enter a tunnel (Minillas Tunnel).
Stay on the right lane for half a mile until you see the sign towards Bayamón.
As reference you will see Plaza Las Américas mall on your left and a lagoon on you right.
Stay on PR-22 heading west for about one mile.
Stay on the right lane.
You will see a sign that reads “Fort Buchanan, Bacardi Rum Factory” exit.
Move to the left lane and at the next traffic light turn left (the Federal Metropolitan Detention Center will be on your left).
You will be on PR 28, stay in the left lane, in five minutes it will lead you to the entrance, on your left, of Fort Buchanan Borinqueneers' Gate.
Important notice, a 100% ID card is required at the access control point.
To obtain a visitor's pass, you will need the following documents:
- Picture ID -- driver's license.
- Vehicle Registration.
- Proof of Insurance.
- Assignment or TDY orders (Military or Civilian workers only -- not required for others.)
* Note that vehicle registration and proof of insurance are required only if you are driving your own privately owned vehicle or a rental vehicle onto Fort Buchanan. If you are using public transportation such as a taxi or shuttle bus, those documents are not required.
