Welcome to Fort Buchanan - Puerto Rico

Welcome to Fort Buchanan Puerto Rico. Fort Buchanan is located in the metropolitan area of San Juan, capital of Puerto Rico. Known as the “Island of Enchantment”, Puerto Rico offers a variety of landscapes, from white sandy beaches to lush green mountains and tropical forests. The island, approximately 100 miles by 35 miles, has a diverse and rich culture, a mix from the Spanish, Africans and Taínos present in the music, cuisine and welcoming character of Puerto Ricans.

U.S. Army Garrison Fort Buchanan consists of 746.16 acres (including Las Colinas, Coconut Grove and Coqui Gardens (Army Family Housing) with a real estate value estimated at $560 million dollars. It serves a population of approximately 130,000 among veterans, retirees, civilians, military personnel and their dependents in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Latin America.

Fort Buchanan is host to a number of tenant activities, such as: the 1st Mission Support Command, the U.S. Army Reserve major tenant unit, other Reserve units and the Puerto Rico National Guard Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ), Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC), USMC 3rd Longshoreman Det, 4th LS, Army/Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES), Defense Commissary Agency (DECA), Rodriguez Army Health Clinic (RAHC), Veterinarian Clinic, Defense Military Pay Office (DMPO), Defense Contracting Audit Agency, TRICARE, Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC), among others.

Fort Buchanan also hosts a number of non-DoD organizations that provide valuable services to Soldiers, their dependants and community members, such as: Pentagon Federal Credit Union, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico,  AAFES Concessionaires and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol

Soldiers will get a sponsor to assist them prior to and upon arrival should contact the personnel office of the gaining unit.  Upon arrival at Fort Buchanan, all Soldiers will report to the Welcome Center during duty hours.  Mail en-route should be sent to 611 S Terminal Rd, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico 00934.
 

The Relocation Readiness Program provides assistance to military and civilian employees and their families prior to, during, and after a PCS move.  Newcomers receive a welcome packet, an orientation on garrison programs and services with additional information about the local culture, and customs. The IHG, Army Hotel on post offers guest rooms as temporary quarters.  Pets are allowed.  A nonrefundable pet fee applies.  Prior to arrival, military personnel must contact the IHG, Army Hotels at 787-792-7977 to make reservations.
