This Introductory Information serves to inform you about the professional procedures of the CFLMTC.
The CFLMTC conducts scheduled counseling sessions, and for this reason, we usually cannot accommodate walk in counseling. You are welcome to stop by and schedule an appointment, but we may not be able to arrange a session that day.
Depending upon the characteristics of the situation, we can provide pastoral psychotherapy individually, with couples, with families, or in any combination of these. Therapy may be brief, or it may take many weeks, depending on the nature of issues being addressed. Usually, people come weekly for a certain length of time, but other intervals of frequency might serve the purpose more adequately. Various diagnostic tools and treatment methods may be used for therapeutic purposes.
After an initial diagnostic period, your counselor/therapist will discuss recommendations with you regarding these matters so that you can co-create a therapeutic plan. Please communicate any questions you have about this process to your therapist/counselor. This process belongs to you and is for you, and we want to ensure that we craft a way forward that adequately addresses your concerns. As a training center, we may use video recording along with clinical supervision to train our counselors and to ensure that you receive the best possible quality of care.

The length of an office visit is normally based upon the 50-minute professional hour, but may be as long as 90 minutes. Since several persons use the same counseling rooms and the room is signed-out for your scheduled appointment, it is very important that the sessions begin and end at the appointed times. Sessions might not be extended, even if you arrive late. You and your counselor will decide a suitable meeting time as part of your working contract.
All consultations between you and your counselor and any records remain strictly confidential. We cannot, and thus we do not, report any issues or conversations to any outside agencies or unit leadership chains. The most rigid professional guidelines will prevail in the handling of your personal information. The CFLMTC maintains in strict confidentiality accordance with Chief of Chaplains policy for Confidential Communications, which restricts Chaplains and other counselors working within Chaplain-led counseling facilities, from divulging any session content to any outside agency or organization without written and signed permission from the client. Your information and your counseling sessions will be held in absolute confidence.
Therapeutic Relationships with other Professionals
If you have seen, or are currently seeing, other professional persons for therapy or counseling, (chaplains, counselor, therapist or psychiatrist) the CFLMTC may need you to sign a Release of Information Form to allow your CFLMTC counselor, if necessary, to talk with that professional to ensure that there is no conflict of treatment.
Your scheduled therapy appointment is a time specifically set aside for you. If you are unable to keep any appointment, please notify the CFLMTC at least 24 hours in advance. Two consecutive missed appointments without advance notification could result in termination of services.
We do not provide childcare during sessions, and children are not authorized to remain in the lobby during your session without direct parental supervision. Children are welcome in family therapy sessions, yet they may detract from specifically designed couples work.
Inclement Weather Policy
Please ask the CFLMTC Religious Affairs Specialist, or your counselor/therapist for a copy of the policy if needed. During the winter season we keep the inclement weather policy on the front door and copies in the lobby for your convenience. Your counselor will also discuss the policy with you if the need arises.
Termination of Counseling
Your care at the CFLMTC is strictly voluntary. Termination of counseling is at your discretion; however, it is important that you discuss with your counselor any decision to discontinue your sessions. If you terminate by mutual agreement and decide later that you need further assistance, you may call the CFLMTC to reinitiate services. Services will be provided as resources permit. The CFLMTC reserves the right to terminate services if the determinant of needed services is not within the scope of the CFLMTC or if the CFLMTC policies are not followed.
