REAL ID gate access policy: Beginning June 1, Fort Leonard Wood physical security specialists will no longer solely accept state-issued identification that does not meet the REAL ID Act of 2005 standards. Anyone with a non-compliant ID will also need to provide a secondary form of identification, such as a U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate. More information – including the full list of acceptable secondary ID – is available here, or by calling 573.596.0590.
Digital driver's licenses or identifications are not accepted and cannot be used as a form of identification for the purpose of identity vetting to gain escorted or unescorted access to Army Installations. Driver's licenses and Identification cards presented for gaining access to Army Installations must be a valid state issued physical document/card.
Effective immediately, Department of Defense Civilian Retiree Identification Cards will no longer be issued. DoD Civilian Retirees must present and register an acceptable credential, such as a REAL ID Act-compliant driver’s license, and their retirement Standard Form 50 at the Visitor Control Center to facilitate future visits to the installation. Previously issued DoD Civilian Retiree ID Cards will remain valid through Aug. 31, 2023, and will not be reissued.
Bridge improvements over I-44 to affect Fort Leonard Wood traffic: A Missouri Department of Transportation construction project set to begin June 12 will close eastbound Exit 161 off Interstate 44, and affect northbound and southbound traffic across the Y Highway/Missouri Avenue bridges over the interstate. One lane will remain open in each direction on the bridges during the project, which is expected to take about four months.
